The national singer-songwriter Oscar a few weeks ago he presented his new production, Moved, a new album that adds to his extensive resume that stands above ten productions.
A job of 14 tracks that have some collaborations with Sol Margueliche, Javier Alert, Onechot, Pablito Xampurria Y Lamsbread Viking, some of which had already been released as singles.
For this reggae pioneer in Chile who lived in Argentina for years, This new album moves between reggae, rap and funk, shows his musical evolution, although it maintains aspects that characterize it, as conscious lyrics derived from his personal experiences - as in “Want to be”-, others dedicated to Rastafari - such as “Recording to Marcus Garvey”-, and also to love - like “One Love (you know)”-.
In conversation with Reggae Chalice the former vocalist of Tanaka brothers referred to public reception, their definitions of this work and the options of presenting this production in Chile.
— What are your feelings about this new album??
— When you are a composer, performer and album producer, it is difficult to reach a feeling of conformity, one knows that there are things that could be improved, you listen to it and you find details, At first that happens to me, but after a while I start to enjoy it. Musically I am improving a lot, I don't tune as much anymore and I don't make my songs based on a “riddim”, now the music depends on the song, which allows me to work more on arrangements and mix the instruments and voices according to the concept of each song..
— What style could define this new work?
- They once asked me, what style of music do I do, and half jokingly I said “poor black music”, not in a derogatory way, because they are the roots of black music, I move between reggae, rap and funk mainly, my style of singing is more on the side of South American folklore, I also incorporate other elements such as arpeggiators, samples and rock stuff, I make music that I like, not to please the public or the industry.

— In the Instagram post where you present the album you say: “When I wanted to get 'fashionable'’ musically, thinking about 'results'…I felt very uncomfortable and out of place., Today my songs only sound like OskarT. I just have to be true to myself and let it flow” Could you elaborate on this??
— I made songs that I don't like, I made them thinking about supporting myself “current”, so to speak, monotonous dembow with lyrics that talk about partying and stuff, I even included dancehall queens in some shows, that was because of him 2008 more or less. At that time the reggae clubs in Santiago were in that, everything was agitated, new clothes and that kind of stuff, I realized that the public's priorities were dancing and alcohol, mine is the message and good music, suddenly I felt like a toad from another well, then I came to Buenos Aires, where roots reggae was very strong and there was more connection with the public. It also has to do with the creative and artistic, I can't do things that are done, copy what comes from Jamaica or the United Kingdom, I have something more to contribute to reggae music.
— How has the public's response been to this album??
— It happens to me that my albums come from the future, so the public's response takes a while to arrive, I have a very bad time with platforms and social networks., but I don't measure the response there, it comes from the human side, There are people who tell me about the positive effect that a song had on them., of the emotion that made them feel, of some nostalgia or that I had the words they were looking for to express something. I haven't presented it live yet, so I don't have an idea how they receive it live, but it almost always happens to me that they listen to me silently and very attentively..
— Are you planning any live presentation of the album here in Chile??
— More than the disk, a review of the entire career, I am looking for a musical agent or manager in Chile with whom I can work on a tour. A few months ago I produced “Midnight and sleepless versions” of José Dolores, I wish we could present that., I have also been working on several songs with Kutral Dub, and it would be nice to be able to play with him, since musically it goes by the style that happens in the Sound System.
