Documentary film “Natural Mystic Festival”
Exactly coinciding with the 25 years of this remembered and iconic reggae recital, During the month of May the documentary was released “Natural Mystic Festival, the Documentary”, who traveled back in time to relive that night in the country's main sports coliseum.
The relevance of that event, who remembered the 20 anniversary of Bob Marley's departure, is that it marked the golden era of reggae in Chile, with Gondwana as the spearhead, in which this style went from being a niche to becoming firmly established in the mass media, radio, TV and newspapers.
This audiovisual work performs a memory exercise, remembering the context of the time, a very different Chile, in which the minimum wage was $105.500, the kilo of bread cost $500 and the fare on the yellow buses in Santiago was worth $300 and also connecting with that dark past of the National Stadium, converted by the dictatorship into a detention and torture center.
“Natural Mystic set that precedent as the Woodstock of reggae.”, where reggae can come from, The great reggae stars can come to the country without a doubt. Before the 2001 The only bands that came were the most pop bands linked to reggae because they had songs that were hits that hit., They were world hits. "They didn't come with the cultural weight of being a reggae band.", commented one of the filmmakers of the documentary, Ignacio Rojas, a Reggae Chalice Magazine.
