Coinciding with the celebration of the birth 139 of Jamaica's national hero, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, transcendental figure for the island, pan-africanism, human rights and for Rastafari, the song was released “Public Holiday” as part of the campaign that seeks to declare the 17 August as a holiday for this iconic character.
Singer Kumar Fyah took the flags of this petition and invited Black Uhuru to give life to this song that will allow “carry the message around the world”.
“I support that the 17 August be declared a national holiday in Jamaica. I ask you to join my team and other reggae musicians in demanding that the Right Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey be properly honored”, the singer said about the song and the campaign.
The song joins other voices on the island, como Winston Rodney -aka Burning Spear-, who also advocates this request.
The campaign to declare a holiday in Jamaica on 17 August is open and can be signed on the website Kumar Fyah, as well as on the website Burning Spear.
