The Caribbean Community will address problems faced by Rastafarians

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will convene a meeting of representatives of Member States and other key stakeholders to discuss issues affecting Rastafarians across the region. This initiative arises in the context of the persistent discrimination and marginalization suffered by Rastafarians., both in the region and internationally.

The decision was adopted during the forty-second intersessional meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government, celebrated on 8 May 2026, instance where Member States noted that many Rastafarians continue to face exclusion in areas such as education, employment and public life. They reaffirmed the importance of ensuring full recognition and protection of the rights of Rastafarians as equal members of society..

Likewise, agreed to establish a committee composed of representatives of Barbados, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago, in order to analyze the problems that affect them.

The meeting highlighted several positive national initiatives already undertaken by Member States to address the historical injustices suffered by Rastafarians., including official public apologies, land grants and legislation to protect people from discrimination in the workplace, examples of progressive measures that could serve as a basis for a coordinated regional approach.

La CARICOM (Caribbean Community) is a group of 15 member countries and 6 associated countries of the Caribbean and South America, united under this organization to work together on aspects related to trade, education and health.
