Four days mark the 74th birthday celebrations corresponding Peter Tosh, singer, composer, activist for the legalization of cannabis and tireless fighter for justice and equality in Jamaica.
The beginning of the celebrations took place on the eve of his birth, Thursday night, with the delivery of the “Peter Tosh Awards”, the one that awarded the singer Bushman with the “Stepping Razor Award” and Mutabaruka with the “Bush Doctor Award”, to name a few.
The activities are organized by “Peter Tosh Estate” and “The Peter Tosh Foundation”, both entities under the management of Niambe McIntosh, Tosh's youngest daughter. This is the third consecutive year that this event is held that remembers and rescues Tosh's work not only on a musical level., but also from the perspective of human rights and the legalization of Cannabis.
The celebrations continue on Friday afternoon. 19, same day of his birth, with a Symposium at the University of the West Indies (UWI in its acronym in English) the one that will highlight the “Bush Doctor” side of Tosh, in accordance with the 40th anniversary of the release of the album “Bush Doctor”, third studio album by the Jamaican artist published in 1978.
During Saturday afternoon, The premises of the Museum that bears his name will be the space that will host the Musical Festival tribute to Peter Tosh, second edition of this contest, which on this occasion will feature the presence of Luciano, Jesse Royal, Etana, Christopher Martin, Jah9, Jah Cure, Rygin King y Dre Tosh (his grandson), all accompanied by the band 809.
The activities commemorating the birth of one of the most important characters in the history of reggae will culminate on Sunday 21 with a pilgrimage to Tosh's mausoleum in his hometown of Belmont, Westmoreland.
It should be remembered that Peter Tosh was a founding member of The Wailers, murdered in his home in St.. Andrew with two friends, in September 1987, to the 42 years.
