One of the first reggae superstars, jamaican singer Jimmy Cliff, achieved its first silver certification in the United Kingdom for “I Can See Clearly Now”, a cover of Johnny Nash's song of the same name 1972.
According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), the song received the award Brit Certified Silver The last friday 18 October after selling more than 200.000 units in the UK, as measured by The Official Charts Company and as reported by Dancehall Mag.
Cliff's version of the song was recorded in 1993 for the movie Cool Runnings, a comedy that is loosely based on the debut of the Jamaican national bobsleigh team at the Winter Olympics in 1988 which were held in Calgary, Canada.
Then, The song was released as a single in October 1993 by the Chaos label, reaching the position 18 Y 14 an el Billboard Hot 100 and the Cash Box Top 100 from United States.
It was Cliff's first single to reach the Hot 100 in 25 years and is their highest-charting single in the United States.
Internationally, the song reached number 1 in France, Iceland and New Zealand, while the music video for this version was directed by Oscar-nominated film director, Scott Hamilton Kennedy.

While, the original theme of Johnny Nash reached the number 1 on the Billboard charts in 1972, helping to bring reggae music to a widespread audience in the United States.
