Peter Tosh: There is so much corruption that there will surely be an eruption

  • It is 19 October is fulfilled 76 years of the birth of this extraordinary artist.

One of the first words that emerge to characterize Peter Tosh it is “revolutionary”. Is that his music, his philosophy, his personality and his vision of the world was like this, far from the molds of the time, an advance.

As expressed in an article by “Jamaica Observer” Herbie Miller, curator of the Jamaica Music Museum and friend, Peter was “an extremely moving composer, a bold lyricist, an inventive musician, an extraordinary vocalist and an enthusiastic performer”.

“Their songs, mostly resistance narratives, optimism and heroism, were delivered with impeccable diction and vocal range that allowed their lyrics to be both daring and poignant”, adds Miller.

With great clarity it became the voice of the oppressed, ensuring in his song Equal Rights: “All cry out for peace, nobody cries out for justice ... but there will be no peace until men have the same rights. Equal rights and justice”.

With that same clarity, in another interview, Way back 1980, Tosh held: “There is so much corruption that there will surely be an eruption”. Chile is a living example of this, without a doubt, a year after the social outbreak and popular rebellion.

Peter was also one, if not the first pro-cannabis activist and a rebel. An example of this is that in each live concert he lit a spliff on stage openly in a context in which many benefits of the herb were still unknown, which science has proven over time.. For something was (and it still being) known as the “Bush Doctor”.

“Know the use of the herb and you will know that it has been created to be medicinal, for high meditation and freedom from complications and depressions of the mind. The number of uses for the herb is unmatched. Knowing the good that grass does to man, I see no reason for it to be requisitioned, pursued or illegal call, and people would not be framed or brutalized because they use it. I have suffered years of humiliation and police violence for the weed. I'm not a criminal and the world knows it. Making music is my occupation”, He said.

A 76 years of his birth in Reggae Chalice we remember the Stepping Razor (Walking knife) and we invite you to participate in the celebration that will take place this Monday, starting at 15:00 hours of Chile through the YouTube de Peter Tosh, where there will be various exhibitors, unknown interviews and performances of the singer.
