UNESCO declared the reggae as Intangible Heritage of Humanity

The reggae From jamaica, the lilting rhythm that evolved from various island rhythms and various black manifestations and was popularized by multiple musicians such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, among many others, was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the Unesco.

“His contribution to international reflection on issues such as injustice, the resistance, love and the human condition highlights intellectual strength, sociopolitical, spiritual and sensual element of this cultural heritage element”, argued the organization to grant this recognition.

“Reggae’ it preserves intact a whole series of basic social functions of music - vehicle of social opinions, cathartic and religious practice - and continues to be a means of cultural expression for the entire Jamaican population”, he added.

Its origin was also highlighted, its development and its impact on Jamaican society as an identifying characteristic of the nation, that just became known worldwide for its artists, like the great bob marley, the first music superstar from the third world.

“Amalgamation of ancient Jamaican musical rhythms and others of very diverse origins - Caribbean, Latin Americans and North Americans - ‘reggae’ originated from a cultural background of marginalized groups living mainly in the western part of the city of Kingston”.

“Over time, neo-African musical styles were incorporated into this element., soul music and the rhythm and blues, gradually transforming the ‘ska’ primal in ‘rock steady’, First, and then in ‘reggae’.
