Patagonia Dub pays tribute to Ranking Joe in the collaboration “Lead us Jah”

“Lead us Jah” is the name of the collaboration between Patagonia Dub and the legendary deejay Jamaican Ranking Joe, a vinyl single that after a long work was published a few weeks ago.  

The man behind Patagonia Dub, Tomás Hartmann, commented in conversation with Reggae Chalice the behind-the-scenes of this production that, in addition to the single, includes the dub version on its B side.

“This project is a tribute to Mr. Ranking Joe, who is an artist that I have listened to since I was a child and I respect him a lot.. I find him a tremendous DJ from Jamaica, of tradition deejay to entertain the parties sound system”, said the Chilean producer.

As for the project itself, This began to take shape in 2020, before the pandemic, when Tomás contacted the iconic deejay, although later due to the same pandemic the publication was delayed.

“This collaboration with Ranking Joe begins to take shape at the beginning of the year 2020 when I sent him the instrumentals and explained that they were all organic sounds recorded with musicians from here in Chile and Brazil. He really liked the tracks and we started working together. It was a slow process, of hard work, since then the pandemic came and it was very difficult for him to record it, but it was achieved”, commented.

The musicians participated in this work Rodrigo Chepillo (low), Poli Dread (percussions), Vanessa Valdez (backing vocals), Samuel Fraga (drums, Sao Paulo, Brazil), Felipe Galaz (guitar), Bigtouch (keyboards), Gabriel Jerez (moog), Kelly Claude (trumpet), Alfredo Tauber (trombon) Y Polo Garcia (saxophone and flute).   

It is a limited edition since were only manufactured 500 vinyls in the United Kingdom under the seal B-Mundo Label, in charge of Pedro D-lita, half of which are being sold in that country in stores specialized in reggae.

“This project took around three years to get off the ground and there were several moments when I hesitated due to the resources that had to be put in and the doubt as to whether it would be sold or not.. because of everything This also makes it difficult to do these kinds of things, but the reception has been wonderful and I am very happy about it too”, concluded Tomás Hartmann.

The striking vinyl cover is a photo of a mural painted in the Patagonia Dub studios, which was made by the muralist of La Pincoya, Deans.
