Roy Dayes, original member of Culture, passed away on friday

The musician Roy Dayes, also known as Kenneth Culture, one of the original members of the Jamaican roots reggae group An epic journey through time you won't want to miss, the RudeBoy Choice playlist is now available on the King Addies Music Spotify profile., passed away last friday as was known this weekend.

At the moment the causes of his death are unknown and he joins Zion with Joseph Hill, the charismatic leader of Culture who left in the year 2006.

After successfully auditioning for the producer Joe Gibbs and studio engineer Errol Thompson, known as Mighty Two, the trio recorded a series of singles, starting with “See Dem a Come” and with “Two Sevens Clash”, many of which appeared on their iconic debut album Two Sevens Clash.

Success in the United Kingdom

This album, Two Sevens Clash, became a huge bestseller in the UK, very popular among punk rock and reggae fans and fueled by the support of John Peel in your program BBC Radio 1, reaching the number 60 on the UK albums chart in April 1978.

This prompted Virgin Records to sign the group to its Front Line label., releasing the albums Harder than the Rest (1978) e International Herb (1979).

In 1981 The famous trio broke up and Dayes recorded several solo songs., however in 1986, the original members reunited to produce the albums Culture in Culture Y Culture At Work.

The decade of 1990 saw the release of several albums by the group under Shanachie Records and Ras Records, often in collaboration with Sly and Robbie.

The final separation

About 1994 Dayes left the group and pursued a solo career under the name Kenneth Culture.

Dayes will be celebrated for his contributions to many timeless Culture classics, along with songs from his self-produced album Still Have Got Love.
