The growth of Rastafari in Latin America in the voice of Rasta women

The development of the Rastafari movement and its different orders in Latin America reported by female voices was the theme of the second meeting in the series of talks “educate yourself: Claiming voices and memory”, organized by the Empress Menen Asfaw Chile Foundation (FEMA).

The guests to exhibit were the empress Sandra Montenegro, of the Panama African Ethiopian International Black Congress (EABIC), member of the League for the Liberation and Freedom of Women and the educational space Empress Menen Learning of Panama.

was also present Maura Urquiza, of House Nyabinghi Mexico, Bachelor of Science in Education, with experience in teaching and learning languages ​​and entrepreneurial, in addition to vivian castaneda (last Dinah), 12 Tribes of Israel Colombia, environmental engineer, founder of the Haile Selassie Black Library, Bogotá headquarters, Cultural Manager of African Diaspora Studies and Pan-Africanism.

“FEMA has the purpose of helping to improve the quality of life of the Rastafari woman and family and we recognize that for that, there is no more powerful tool than unity and mutual support. So give space for the voice to be visible, the knowledge and experiences of Rastafari women is essential”, Iniris said, one of the organizers of the cycle.

“It is a space for coordination and creation of links that was absent at a public level and that the Cycle of Talks 'Educate yourself’ has been sustaining between the Rastafari community of Latin America and the Spanish-speaking. The talk brought together sisters from the 3 Rastafari houses and that is also a great milestone for our region”, he added.
