Chile and Jamaica sign cooperation agreement on sport and foreign trade

Countries signed a Sports Cooperation Agreement, which aims to encourage physical activity among young people in both countries, and a Memorandum of Understanding between the commercial agencies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile (PROCHILE) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Jamaica (JAMPRO) to exchange experiences and promote bilateral and regional trade.

Within the framework of the Official Visit to Chile made by the Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness, the President of the Republic, Michelle bachelet, highlighted the strengthening of ties between the two countries, opportunities to increase trade and investment, and seek common answers to both regional and global problems.


During the joint statement to the press, the country's highest authority explained that this visit “reaffirms Chile's proximity and commitment to the Caribbean, following the path that we have been building over time and whose latest expressions are the tour we did a few days ago to Barbados and Saint Lucia, and my participation in the CARICOM Summit last year, opportunity in which I extended to the Prime Minister the invitation to visit Chile, that today takes shape ".

In this same line, President Bachelet underlined the common framework that unites both countries as “the importance of respect for democratic values, human rights, The rule of law, the principles of international law and the protection of the environment, prioritizing -in this sense- the conservation of the oceans and the seabed. further, we agree on the importance of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and their relevance in South-South cooperation projects ".


further, The Governor pledged its cooperation for development in areas such as the eradication of poverty, the Agriculture, natural disaster prevention, adaptation and mitigation of climate change, coastal environmental management, public safety among others.

Finally, The President also referred to the situation in Venezuela.
"We have addressed the situation in Venezuela, whose political situation, economical, social and humanitarian is followed with concern by the entire continent. And both Chile and Jamaica agree to make calls so that Venezuela can reach a prompt and peaceful exit ", he pointed.
