The reggae singer Jah Cure will have to spend more time in prison, since he was sentenced to eight years and four months for attempted murder, by the Amsterdam Court of Appeal, in Netherlands.
The interpreter of “Love Is” was arrested in March 2022 for attempted involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to six years in prison, after he stabbed the Dutch concert promoter known as Nicardo “Papa” Blake after an argument over payment for a performance in Amsterdam.
In that trial he was acquitted of the charges for which he was accused.. But nevertheless, Dutch prosecutors appealed, indicating that the murder was premeditated.
The sentence
The 30 October the Amsterdam Court of Appeal handed down the sentence, finding Jah Cure guilty of attempted murder, sentencing him to eight years and four months in prison.
The ruling was issued by the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, after almost seven months of hearings to hear the arguments of both parties, According to a representative of the Netherlands Prosecutor's Office, DancehallMag.
The artist allegedly waited for the victim in Dam Square, stabbing him hard in the stomach in broad daylight. The court rejected the claims of self-defense, because the facts of said argument are not plausible. The ruling highlighted the savagery of the act, placing special emphasis that committed in broad daylight in a busy tourist location.
Appeal
The appeal was filed in April 2022 and the court handed down its sentence 30 October 2025, exceeding in almost seven months the so-called “reasonable period of 16 months”, reason why the court reduced the prison sentence to eight years and four months.
The artist apologized to his fans in 2023 because of the situation he was in, but for now he has not issued statements.
