Reggae singers Marcia Griffiths, Wayne Marshall and Tarrus Riley receive important honors for his contributions to Jamaican culture in a ceremony during the celebrations of the National Heroes Day of the country this Monday 16 October.
Of the 126 Jamaicans from various fields nominated for different awards, Wayne “Marshall” Michelle the Tarrus Riley received the Order of Distinction (FROM) -in the rank of officers- for his contributions to national development through music, particularly reggae.
While the “Queen of Reggae” Marcia Griffiths was promoted from the Order of Distinction received 2014 to another of Jamaica's most important national awards, the Order of Jamaica (OJ), for his excellent contribution to reggae music, at local and international level, according to various media outlets on the island.
“Grateful for this incredible recognition of my contribution to Dancehall/Reggae and the musical culture of our beloved nation. This award is for my family who has supported me throughout the years., for each producer, follower and fellow artist who believed in me. I can't thank you enough”, Marshall wrote on his Instagram account.
Meanwhile, Griffiths emphasized that “This is a special moment for me and I give all my thanks to God.. He is the one who is in control. I'm feeling on top of the world, grateful and grateful. I'm singing music to the world… It's about upliftment and teaching. I have no doubt that I have a mission from God and I am happy to have been chosen”, Griffiths said to Jamaica Gleaner.
The iconic singer, that takes almost 60 years of music, recently released a new album, Golden.
Tarrus Riley also reacted to this recognition on his social networks.
“It feels amazing to make my loved ones proud!! It feels amazing to be recognized for my musical contribution.. I put my heart and soul into My Art. I received this honor today, but nevertheless, I am not alone and I could not be here without (people) specials in my corner daily throughout life's journey”, the singer expressed on Instagram.
