Jamaica is in one of the most difficult moments in its history, going through days of chaos and uncertainty after the devastating passage of Hurricane Melissa, the category storm 5 that hit the island a few weeks ago and left great destruction in its wake.
The storm was one of the most powerful natural disasters ever recorded in the region, Strong winds and storm surge devastated the area, leaving roads impassable and a trail of destruction that has them increasingly desperate and isolated, no electricity or drinking water.
As a result of that, Different Rastafarian organizations in Chile began a solidarity fundraising campaign to help families in Jamaica, among them the Empress Menen Asfaw Foundation (FEMA), Rastafarian Nyahbinghi Vigilant, The Lion of Judah Community, Reggaeseros and La Cimarra Bookstore.
“From the Empress Menen Asfaw Foundation we are promoting this solidarity fundraising campaign, which is an effort to achieve assistance to the Rastafari brotherhood in Jamaica, in particular due to what happened with the passage of the hurricane, but also because it is essential that at the international level we maintain strategies of support and collective security”, comments Stop Iniris Mae from FEMA to Reggae Chalice Magazine.
