The Iquiqueño group Jahma Black is getting ready to start its activities this year, that will come intense in the artistic, and that, somehow, It is a reactivation after the pandemic and the limitations it caused to cultural activities and in general to everyone's lives..
And this principle of 2023 came with a new single, presented this Tuesday 9 from January, called “no more lies”, a song that for the band is “a criticism of social manipulation after a long period of confinement”, since as part of the lyrics says, “we woke up from a long nap”.
and the “Tour in Jammas”, which will begin with the presentation at the Woodstaco Festival in Parral and will also have several dates in Santiago, It will be the perfect occasion to promote this topic, commented to Reggae Chalice JOAO SANTOS, drummer of the group.
Although the objective of this tour is broader than just presenting this new single, the musician emphasized.
“Este’ Tour en Jahmas’ born as a result of our participation in the Woodstaco festival 14 January in Parral. For us it is always a showcase to leave our city, Iquique, an extreme region of Chile, what has advantages, but it also has many disadvantages, in the sense of being very far from the capital, especially in a country as centralized as Chile.”, says the drummer.
Santos also explained that “the distance, geography, the times and since everything is very centralized, everything happens in Santiago, in the downtown area, the big concerts, the greatest opportunities, largest population, bigger places to play”.
Although also with this tour the band seeks “show work, the new, also show that we have been reinventing ourselves over the years. The band was born in 2003 and we are already in 2023 then they are already 20 years of where many things have happened, Even so, we persevere in music and few bands or artists can say that.”, adds the musician.
The “Tour in Jammas”
Specific, The band will perform this Saturday 14 January at the Woodstaco Festival, on the stage called Blestaco, event that will take place at Camping El Trapiche, Saint Manuel, Parral, and tickets can be purchased on the platform Portal Disc.
After Woodstaco the band will move to Santiago to perform on Wednesday 18 of January in the Spoh Bar (Roberto Espinoza 1456, Santiago Center) with Zuraka.
The next day, Jahma Black will be presented at the Aretha Soul Bar, located in Monjitas 625, also in Santiago Centro and finally on Saturday 21 January the show will be at the restobar Get a Little Thing (Firefighter Núñez 343, Recoleta).
—What are the band's expectations with this tour??
—The expectation on this tour is to be able to spread our work more widely., give it much more diffusion, reach other audiences, reach out to other people, I hope to also share with the reggae brotherhood, with other reggae artists. I know that there is a group of people who know Jahma Negra, who has heard it at some point on YouTube, Spotify, in some old tune, some who have had to come to Iquique and have met us who have been able to be here at some festivals that were held many years ago on the beach, etc.. Those are our expectations, be able to show, increase our scene, our stage, being able to share with different people and not only reach the reggae audience but also other people who may have other musical tastes and who may have never heard us and that is interesting, submit to that test and be able to show that in Iquique there are good exponents, There is talent and reggae that is still standing.
Trip to Argentina, “a before and after” for the group
Another important milestone for Iquiqueños this year will be his trip to Argentina scheduled for mid- 2023, where they will carry out many activities, among them the recording of his third EP, after Nattydread (2007) and of another self-titled EP from the band (2016).
It is a trip that will be self-managed by themselves and to which they go with great enthusiasm., because they feel that it is a reward for the work of all these years.
“The trip to Argentina is also one of the good news we received during 2022 and also the result of work, For us it is also a kind of recognition to have received the invitation from a production company in Argentina –Mural Session– who works with different independent bands in Latin America. For us it is also a kind of recognition”, says the group's drummer.
Add that “this tour of the 'Tour in Jahmas', which starts now in January, It has continuity during the year and that continuity will be in Argentina and it is super important and super essential for us and I believe that this marks a before and after in the trajectory of the band, which is going to record in Argentina in 2 studies. First, at Unison, which was by Gustavo Cerati, and in the Romaphonic, which was from Fito Páez, and we are going to record with top-of-the-range implements, with good technicians”.
In that sense, the musician explains that “We are going to record the EP at Unísono and in addition to recording we are going to have presentations in Buenos Aires and events with other bands. This is very important for us because we have many networks that we have made during the year 2022 to be able to get to Argentina in a good way”.
