The crew of Chakana Soundsystem, Musifemin Y native roots, He traveled to the northeast of Brazil at the beginning of July, an area closely linked to reggae, on an excursion that they described as a “unforgettable experience”, performing at various clubs and festivals.
The vibrant streets of Fortaleza, the capital of the state of Ceará, and paradisiacal beaches that overlook the Atlantic were the background scenery of this adventure through the giant of South America.
“We perform live in reggae clubs in the town of Canoa Quebrada and in Fortaleza, showing our music in vinyl format 7 inches, which allowed us to bring the authentic essence of roots reggae directly to the Brazilian public”, expressed Native of Raíces.
The selector and mc also highlighted that “The warmth and enthusiasm we received reaffirmed the importance of roots reggae in the culture of this region, where the spirit of reggae is lived and breathed in every corner”.

He also valued the participation of Musifeminas in the 8° International Reggae Festival in Praia da Pipa, a purely feminine musical meeting that took place between the 8 and the 12 July on the aforementioned beach located 85 kilometers south of Natal, capital of Rio Grande do Norte, in which artists such as Alika, Rob Love, Pali Trobone, Mariana Silva, The Taliban, Educareggae, Gingamaica, Juju Soul, among many others.

Another highlight of this trip in the opinion of the selector was the discovery of the “coladño”, a unique dance from that area of Brazil.
“The coladiño is danced in pairs, fusing reggae with northeastern tradition. this dance, very special of the region, reflects the essence of connection and enjoyment in community and it became one of the highlights of our visit”, express.
As a final reflection on this journey, Chakana Soundsystem highlighted learning, growth and commitment to reggae.
