Burning Spear and The Pioneers complete the Rototom Sunsplash lineup

In the final stretch before the start of the main reggae festival in Europe, the Rototom Sunsplash defined its complete poster less than a month after the start of the event scheduled to take place between 16 Y 22 August in Benicasim, town located east of Madrid and north of Valencia, Spain, on the beautiful coast of the Balearic Sea.  

The main addition to head the bill is Burning Spear, the legendary Jamaican band fronted by Winston Rodney, that joins the plethora of reggae stars already confirmed, while the band with a long history will also say present The Pioneers, in force since the 60s′ on the caribbean island.

Also joining the festival is the London-based Hollie Cook and the also British band The Cimarons, with more than half a century of experience on stage, also the singer and producer from Buenos Aires Miss Bolivia, with their explosive reggae mixes, cumbia, hip hop o dance.

Another South American band that will be at Rototom are the Argentine-Colombian Che Sudaka who will wear their cumbia, shall y punk, while the Valencian ska band The Sonorous Fricative and the reggae group Dangeroots ft Treble from Italy were also confirmed.

To them are added the names already ratified previously, like the mythical reggae band from Birmingham UB40, the recently awarded with a Grammy Kabaka Pyramid, Protoje & The Indiggnation Y Lila Iké representing the younger generation of Jamaican music; Barrington Levy; Capleton O Junior Marvin, guitarist for Bob Marley's Wailers; the renowned British band that this year visited Chile Steel Pulse, among many others.

One of the novelties for this year is a new step in the musical fusion of the Rototom Sunsplash, since to the usual mixture of rhythms of black roots and the notable weight of afrobeats wrapping reggae as the main theme, in this edition he explores the symbiosis of Jamaican music with the sound universe of flamenco music.

And this will be done with a unique and unprecedented show in the history of this benchmark reggae meeting in Europe.: “The flamenco world salutes Bob Marley”, which will premiere worldwide on the Main Stage on 22 of August, on the closing day of the festival, and will unite figures from the flamenco world such as Josem Y John Carmona, O Kiki Morente as a special guest.

“just like reggae, flamenco is much more than music, it's a lifestyle. Since that trip to Jamaica it has been almost an obsession to find the way to merge music and cultures., essential in a project like the one that will premiere at Rototom Sunsplash”, explained the creator of this show, Israel Suarez.

“I took on this challenge as my own, challenge that implied another implicit: singing flamenco in English is unprecedented”, stressed Suarez.
