jamaican singer Vybz Kartel was awarded as the “Artist of the Decade” in the inaugural edition of the Caribbean Music Awards to recognize Caribbean artists of the Reggae, Dancehall y Soca, among other styles, in a ceremony held this Thursday at the Kings Theater in Brooklyn, NY.
The singer, who is in prison serving more than 10 years one life sentence, celebrated this award on their social networks.
The event organized by Caribbean Elite Group, magazine editors Caribbean Elite Magazine, featured the animation of the multi-award-winning Haitian rapper and actor Wyclef Jean and the objective of this instance is to honor and celebrate the exceptional talent and creative prowess of artists from the Caribbean.
within the 26 categories, another of the award-winning artists was the iconic Beres Hammond, known for his soulful melodies and evocative lyrics, who received the “Elite Icon Award”.
While Kabaka Pyramid took the award for Best Reggae Album with The Kalling, such as last February he received the Grammy for the same disc, and also got the “Impact Award” in the Reggae category.
while the singer Spice won the award for “Female Artist of the Year” in the Dancehall category, Ding Dong won the award for “Best Dance Song of the Year”, and Dexta Daps got the award as “Dancehall Performer of the Year”.
