Vaughn Benjamin, heading to Zion surprise a reggae icon

  • The prolific musician died last Monday at 50 years and left a legacy broad musical.

Surprising news shocked the world of reggae Monday in the meet the unexpected death of Vaughn Benjamin, leader Midnite y To stay in Beka, to the 50 year old.

born 13 August 1969 on the island of Antigua, he moved with his family to the island St. Croix (Virgin islands, USA) at eight years old and there forged a prolific musical career, perhaps one of the most fertile among reggae musicians.

His voice and his music became a true icon of the militant reggae Rastafari, showing his talent both in composition and creating music and also as famous singer.

Vaughn was charismatic and insightful, complex, but he lived a simple life. His musical career

Year 1989 was the starting point to the form with his brother Ron Benjamin the band Midnite, together they managed to get a unique sound, “Midnite sound”, that reflected in each of his albums and in each of their presentations.

More of 70 Albums, beginning with Ras Mek Peace, following with Unpolished, Nemozian Rasta y Kings Bells, among many others, in which he addressed letters with strong social burden, political and economic and respect for Haile Selassie I meant him great exposure and spotted the group as one of the largest and most influential reggae.

Although the musicians of the band changed over the years, Ron and Vaughn remained the heart of Midnite and toured the United States, Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, America North and South, visiting Chile in April 2010, an unforgettable concert more than two hours at the Nescafé Theater Arts.

In 2015, the brothers embarked on solo trips and Vaughn continued under the name “Akae Beka”, grouping with which launched 11 Projects , the last “Mek A Menshun”, in July, under the label of Zion High Productions.

With the latter band, Benjamin also visited Chile. It was in 2017 Ralak summit, appearing at the Estadio Municipal de Melipilla.

According Reggaville, just two weeks ago, Akae Beka, and his management team, directed by Adrian Bluford's Carolina North, They were working with an agent who offered him to Vaughn dates for an extensive European tour planned for 2020, which ultimately could not be.

His family spoke for his Instagram account to thank JAH and Vaughn's followers.
