“Cannabis & Me” is the name of the research that King’s College London will develop.
A London university launched a study of 2,5 million pounds sterling, almost 3 millions of dollars, on the effects of cannabis on the brain, possibly the largest independent study of its kind conducted to date.
“Cannabis & Me” This research is called, which will be carried out by King’s College London what will investigate the environmental and biological factors behind the different effects that people experience when consuming cannabis and search 6.000 people to carry it forward, as published by the BBC.
The researchers said funding from the government agency Medical Research Council (Medical Research Council) will help develop a greater understanding of the substance, what is estimated is used by 200 millions of people around the world.
More research is needed on how the drug interacts with the brain so doctors can have more confidence when considering prescribing medicinal cannabis, said the head of the researchers, the doctor Marta di Forti.
“Many consume cannabis daily for recreational purposes.”, but also for medicinal reasons, but in the UK, medical cannabis prescription remains rare. Our study aims to provide data and tools that can make doctors in the UK and around the world more confident, when appropriate, in the safe prescription of cannabis”, dijo Di Forti.
The goal of the study is to understand the link between a user's biological makeup and the effect that cannabis has on them., for which the researchers will use a combination of virtual reality, psychological and cognitive analysis and DNA testing.
They will also observe epigenetics in the participants, which is how behavior and environment can affect the way genes work.
Dr.. Di Forti said she was particularly interested in uncovering any markers related to potential problems in users., for example, social or mental health problems.
The team is now looking for participants among 18 a 45 years living in the London area, who are currently using cannabis or have used it less than three times or never before.
