The first images of “Bob Marley” in his biopic

Filming began in London for the biopic of Bob Marley from Paramount Pictures and the British media Daily Mail captured the first images of the actor who plays the reggae legend, Kingsley Ben-Adir, on the film set.

According to the publication, the scenes supposedly “recreate the moment when Bob and his bandmates -Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer- they arrived at their hotel in Paris”, seeing Kingsley through a bus window, before walking down to a swarm of fans waiting for autographs.

The actor is dressed in period clothing, that is to say, with flared jeans or “elephant legs”, a white wool sweater, with red and blue tones, plus a khaki jacket over the ensemble and a green yellow and red wool tam on her head, recreating Bob's signature style.

The movie, which does not yet have an official title, will be released in January 2024 and it is expected that some scenes will be recorded in Jamaica.

The choice of the actor last February generated a lot of controversy since a Jamaican was not chosen to play Bob, since it could have been one of his children, as Ky-Mani Marley, who had said in November of last year that playing the role of his father was his dream.

further, some reggae fans maintain that, as a foreigner, no matter how hard i try, Ben-Adir will not be able to effectively portray the nuances and mannerisms of the Jamaicans.

Even worse, they also argued that Ben-Adir will be unable to master the patois language and would sound ridiculous, as has been the case with the long list of acclaimed foreign actors, who tried to play roles like Jamaicans.

Other approaches indicate that Paramount and Ziggy should have ruled out the British actor, since pretending to be a native patois speaker could be a distraction that would be immediately detected even by non-Jamaicans.
