Two months ago José Dolores presented "Common Pot", an EP that reflected the difficulties of life in these times of pandemic and the impact that this has meant on people's lives. In these short months of concentration and musical work, is back with a new album that is now available for those who place their orders directly with the artist, through a voluntary contribution.
Reggae Chalice spoke with him deejay Chilean who said that in these months, since the last conversation you had with this medium, has remained active, “making music, composing, producing, mixing, learning, and that has allowed me to resist in a dignified manner against the entire situation of confinement and all the machinery of the virus and the pandemic.”
"V.O.V." is the name of the new album by José Dolores, acronyms that mean “I come again”, referring to this new era where music has a faster periodicity than before, when the albums even took years to come out between one and the other, a short time where the public will now be able to delight in a new long production under the incomparable style of José Dolores.
And so he ratifies it with confidence and property.: “The hallmark of this album is that the songs that José Dolores makes cannot be made by anyone else.”, I think that's the seal, the way of saying things no one else can say, the way to ride the rhythm, no one else can say it, and my tone, no one else can do it, So the label of the album is without a doubt José Dolores.”
Mixed by José Dolores and mastered by KDH Music, “V.O.V.” It was recorded between July and August 2020 in Pirque by Yancarlo Della Mota. The disk of 7 tracks brings back the sound and lyrics of José Dolores on urban sounds that wander between electronics, reggaeton, the dembow; downtempo rhythms linked to digital reggae, al trap, al r&b, rhythms that sound today, in the words of its author.
As stated in a press release, the album opens its fires with the self-titled “V.O.V.”, that exudes substance and consistency. Then “Laberintoh” takes us on a journey through those places that are difficult to decipher. A cry against injustice, abuse and aggression is “Dreadlocks”, historical legacy of “uncombed hair”.
“With you”, It seduces you like an aromatic fragrance that differs from others due to its authenticity. “A thousand” invites us to continue on the street, “until dignity becomes custom”. The musical story continues with “Without water” that beats to end the theft of water. An ancient song that longs for the natural balance of the earth. To close, the acapella of “V.O.V.” It is a gift for those DJs, selectors and producers who love and support the “old craz”, what he calls himself.
While José Dolores continues promoting “V.O.V.”, In parallel, he is working on some surprises for the rest of the year. He told this medium that in December he will surprise with something new from the hand of a “feminine power that I will keep in reserve.”, he claimed.
Music has always been a tool to transmit messages, criticisms or reflections on life and its vicissitudes. This year has had such a strong impact on all people in Chile and the world., that has exposed the crudeness of a deeply unequal system. In this sense, José Dolores shared a reflection for all the readers of Reggae Chalice.
“It has become clearer than ever, in the last 30 O 40 years, that the system is the problem, that the system has no return, that the system is what causes the suffering, the misery of the people and that - in contrast to that -, life is what we have to live and face. Not having a job is not the problem, the system is the problem. Rest and give time to your loved ones, and not walk at the rhythm of another, it's not the problem, the problem is not having anything to eat, what to wear, with what to be healthy, then in the case of us who work in art or music, It has been a good time to remind us that we are human beings, just like everyone, and that fame, idol recognition, and that aura that is a bit distant from people that some colleagues have, has vanished”, he deepened.
To end, The deejay said that “Instagram numbers have disappeared.”, youtube numbers, los likes, They have disappeared and what I am as a person has remained and that is quite interesting., so I encourage everyone to continue seeking to be what they are., and not what they have been told or what they want, or what on a whim they would like to be”.
“V.O.V” is now available to all those who want to acquire this material through a minimum voluntary contribution of 2.000 Chilean pesos. To make your reservation you can write to contacto.josedolores@gmail.com.
