Faud: event celebrates 50 years of Hip Hop and reveal relationship with Reggae Dancehall

Faawud will celebrate the 50 years of Hip Hop and its link with dancehall reggae

An unprecedented event that will mark the celebration of the 50 years of hip hop will be held next 10 of August at Webster Hall in New York, where they will join forces Rock The Bells y Bowery Presents, beside Impulse Nation, Kool Herc Productions, King Addies y Jamaica Music Conference.  

Its about Faud, an event that aims to highlight The influence of Jamaican Sound System culture on Hip Hop, an aspect that has been underestimated throughout history, so this inclusive cultural celebration will bring together the Jamaican diaspora, the Caribbean community and the Hip Hop family to explore and honor the shared heritage of both cultures.

Apart from commemorating the half century of life of Hip Hop, the Faud will be part of the celebration of the 40 años del Sound System King Addies and the tenth anniversary of the Jamaica Music Conference.

Likewise, iconic figures of Hip Hop and Reggae Dancehall will be honored, such as the legendary DJ Kool Herc, considered the “Father of Hip Hop”; Cindy Campbell, known as the “First Lady of Hip Hop”; the first MC of Hip Hop, Coke La Rock; the King of the Jamaican Selectors, Danny Dread; and the original Jamaican toaster Big Youth, who will receive deserved recognition for their contribution to music.

It is no coincidence that New York's Webster Hall has been chosen for this show, because this emblematic place is significant since it will officially start the 50 anniversary of the legendary Hip Hop party of Cindy Campbell y DJ Kool Herc which took place in 1973 and that somehow marked the beginning of this musical genre.

The show will begin with an exciting display of sound systems, followed by a historic panel discussion featuring influential figures in Jamaican Hip Hop and music, together with prominent journalists. This will be the first time the two industries have come together to celebrate their shared legacy..

In addition to the discussion, The event will feature various activities for music fans, like a showdown (clash) quality sound systems, an exhibition of turntablism and an exciting toasting session featuring Hip Hop and Reggae Dancehall icons together.
