The duo “mexileno” 123xTi presents his debut EP Chakana Sound System

A not so positive experience in Mexico led to a new musical project called 123xTi (A, of the, three for you) who this Friday presents his first EP called Chakana Sound System.

The duo of Danilo from Flow (38) Y Vibrant (26), a Chilean and a Mexican, was formed after a disagreement with his previous band during a trip to Mexico, beginning with this adventure around the year 2021.

“We went to Mexico with Branko with the band Hijo de las Hojas, so in between we didn't have a nice ending. To transform this bad experience into something pleasant, I proposed this project to Branko called 123xTi“, commented Danilo in dialogue with Reggae Chalice.

The musician explained that the striking name chosen by this nascent duo “mexileno” “It has to do with that moment when we are playing as children and you are a hero for 10 seconds, You run, you're the last one free and you hit the wall and say '123 for me and all my classmates.'’, then you're like the neighborhood hero. That's what 123xTi refers to, a super special moment of the game, what is life too, and within the children that we are and the children we want to be”.

After this situation, they began to work on the joint project that has its first fruits in Chakana Sound System.. La chakan o “andean cross” It is a recurring symbol in the native cultures of the Andes whose square and stepped shape forms 12 tips and as explained by Danilo del Flow, “That was like the symbol we found while I was living there in Mexico.”.

The musician explained that the sound of the EP, which has 5 songs, “It's Reggae Dub and I was interested in doing Steppa, because there in Mexico there are a lot of Sound Systems”.

In that sense, who was also a guitarist for 12 tribes, stressed that “I like a lot of delay, I like dub, the repetitive boxes, the stuck drums,  volatile textures, psychedelic, It is explored a lot with that here”.

further, The professor also highlighted that all the work of this EP has been independent, everything has been at the expense of the duo themselves.

“We are doing everything ourselves, That's the beauty of this production and that is that we produce, we mix and also master. we do everything, we are very self-taught, we like it that way, express our art to the fullest, we make the cover and everything”, he raised.

“We have our first single called 'Patitas en la Tierra’ and that also symbolizes a lot to the family that embraced us in Mexico and what was the first thing they taught us, put your paws in the ground, to walk dirt when you arrive in a new place. After that comes 123x you, which is the freedom that meant staying with Branko each in his solo project and also starting this other project. This started in November 2021 and there we started releasing singles and creating this complete album”, emphasized.

Danilo, What are your musical influences?

—I played guitar 15 years in 12 Tribes then I have all the influence in reggae that you can imagine, since Bob Marley, Gregory Isaac, Dennis Brown, The Skatalites, all the Jamaican bands ever and ever to have. So I have a lot of influence from reggae and jazz., and today also African American, afro-caribbean, haitian compass, From Peru. I don't only do reggae, I also do my solo music, like right now I'm releasing electronic songs, as well as house, dance, but there is a lot of Afro-Caribbean music coming and always from the side of light, of the strength, counteracting a little the dog music that there is, dog themes, I don't really agree with the themes that are addressed or with what that theme reproduces either..

What projects do you have in mind??

We plan to release the second volume of Chakana Sound System, with the idea that it is voiceless, pure dub bases, reggae. As for live performances, we do not have any plans yet because Branko is in Mexico and I am here in Chile..
