The penquista reggae band Congo Map He published his latest single at the end of November on different platforms called “Criminal”, a reggae rock that in the words of its authors, is a song that is “loaded with feeling”.
According to the group, “Criminal” -which contains a sample of Matias Catrileo, Mapuche community member and university student murdered by Carabineros- carries in its lyrics the demands and protests of a people who seek to return their culture and education to the territory that always belonged, in addition to be a strong message to the church, political class and police institutions.
Pablo Xampurria, Congo Mapu lyric composer, stated that the issue “follows the lines of previous songs, protest reggae, strong music” and the idea of this emotionally charged music is “that touches people's hearts, that they are educated, Let them know that extractivism is damaging the future of our people and territory”.
The new single features the outstanding participation of the Colombian singer-songwriter Lali de la Hoz, a collaboration that for Congo Mapu is a “tremendous enhancer, since we have tremendous admiration for her and we are honored to be able to have her on our first album”.
“It is an honor that a tremendous musician like her sings a lyric that I wrote”, Xampurria emphasized about De la Hoz, a contact that occurred with the arrival of the composer to Penquista territory and her work with the group's guitarist., Orellana Zaloman.
