The Thursday 8 and Friday 9 of May The second version of the event will be held in the city of Vallenar. Expo Rastafari “One Love”, which will take place in the Victor Acosta Aguilera Cultural Center from the aforementioned commune in the north of the country, in between the 10:00 and the 18:00 hours.
At this meeting there will be several exhibitions, between them, about the History of Rastafari Culture in Vallenar; the Afro-descendant presence in Atacama; the memoirs of a Rastafari woman; Rastafari as Resistance, Afro-Caribbean Culture and Identity.
There will also be an entrepreneur fair, as well as photo gallery, crafts, literature, Rastafarian culture, documentaries, vegan food, Drums and Nyahbinghi Chants, plus tumbe dance by Ubuntu Afö.
“Last year there was a cultural intervention for 'African Liberation Day'’ and this year they wanted to resume it to continue with the Rastas cultural activities in the city. And it was also being considered to hold an expo again and, if possible, have the event held every year., which is why we thought about combining both activities and making it one”, stated the community Negus Nagast a Reggae Chalice Magazine.
The group explained that the first Rastafari Expo was in August 2017 and on the occasion it was celebrated within the framework of Marcus Garvey month, Rastafari prophet, under the motto “For the progress and development of Yo y Yo”, while the motto of this occasion is “For African Liberation Month”, regarding the fact that the 25 African Liberation Day is celebrated in May.
The Negus Nagast Brotherhood, who organizes this event, settled into 2005 and in 2006 was legally formalized regarding the Royal Visit 2006, when elderly Rastas arrived in Chile for the first time to meet the southernmost Rastafari community in the world.
“From the beginning until today we have always been active, we have always met, sharing and celebrating our Nyahbinghi ceremonies, Y We have carried out different cultural activities, as interventions, exhibitions, sound systems. We have always collaborated with other organizations and with the entire community and above all, fulfilling the Nyahbinghi creed, further We have participated and defended this territory from the mountain range to the sea from extractive threats”, added the community.
