Rodney Price, known worldwide as Bounty Killer, received the Key to the City of Kingston from the hands of Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) and the Municipal Council.
The delivery took place in a ceremony this Tuesday in the Jamaican capital, a recognition that the artist himself put above any award in the music industry.
“This is not a common thing, This is worth more than a Grammy to me.. These people watched me grow as a young artist (…) They are personally involved in my upbringing., and that they have decided that I deserve the Kingston Key is something phenomenal”.
From Sea View Gardens to the world
Bounty Killer He dedicated a good part of his speech to Sea View Gardens, his hometown in Kingston, who called “the mecca of greatness” and also remembered those who formed him: Boom Dandemite, Nitty Kutchie, Elephant Man, el Scare Dem Crew, as well as the first one who opened a studio door for him.
“Wayne Smith was the one who gave me the experience of putting on headphones and entering a recording booth. The first song I recorded was in Wayne Smith's small studio, in his room, here on windward road. That's where it all started”, he remembered with emotion.
Rodney Price Drive
The recognition of the singer did not stop only at the key, since also the street previously known as Wenchman Road received the official name of Rodney Price Drive.
“Es Rodney Price Drive. It's official. You already saw it in the summons. No more Wenchman Road”, Bounty Killer said to those present, closing his speech with the statement that sums up his moment: “the king of kings with the key of kingston”.
