Maialem surprises with video lyrics of "La Isla Bonita"

  • With “La Isla Bonita” the artist positioned herself as the first Chilean woman on the scene to record a single in Jamaica.

As "an outstanding debt" Maialem describes the re-release of the single "La Isla Bonita", musical project produced in 2017 and with which he surprised by presenting a video lyrics of this dancehall in combination with the Jamaican artist Dre-don.

Recognized on the scene, the female dancehall voice is the first Chilean woman to record a single in Jamaica and with a Jamaican artist, what was his main motivation in the trip he made to the island that year.

In conversation with Reggae Chalice, Maialem expressed her happiness in having managed to make this long-awaited audiovisual production.

"For me it means fulfilling a dream, meet a debt that we had outstanding because when we made this production a few years ago in combination with the Jamaican artist, we always wanted to be able to do a meeting and record the video, which we can never do, therefore now it seemed like a good idea with Reggae Chalice make a relaunch because we feel that through videos the songs in general reach a greater number of audiences ", He said.

Although each song has an important work and a particular affection for the process and the result, this project particularly had high challenges starting from the base of organizing a trip to the island, produce a riddim, coordinate times for creation and then record the voices of both artists. All this driven and managed by two women, which was undoubtedly another great challenge, break the natural barriers of a patriarchal system, overcome your own fears and complexities of the language, and achieve a good quality job in the short time that the holidays last: 15 days.

Above all the process that meant realizing "La Isla Bonita", Maialem comments that working with artist Dre-don was "super enriching."

“It was a challenge because going to Jamaica and recording with artists from there requires a double effort., they go super fast in what is the composition and the lyric, then at the time of creating there was a pressure on. further, one is doing a style that basically belongs to them, then you are getting a bit involved in what for them is something super daily ", he relates while adding that this single “is a great goal in my career, have been the first woman to record in Jamaica and have a feat with an artist from there ", he explained.

Meanwhile, artist Dre-don chatted with Reggae Chalice on the re-release of the single, the first in his career recorded in combination with a woman, and with a Latin woman.

“It is my first collaboration with a Latin artist. I think it was a great project because it installed my voice in the Latin market where people previously did not know Dre-don but now they do listen to him., so I give thanks for that. Even Maialem who was not in the Jamaican market, it also managed to enter the market on the island so the union of our voices crosses both markets, therefore I am very grateful for this project that would not have been possible without Reggae Chalice and Jorge de la Jungla ", said the artist from Portmore, Jamaica.

Dre-don appealed to Reggae Chalice readers: “La Isla Bonita is not just a good project, it's a great project (…) Now that we put out the video with lyrics, I invite people to look at it, hear it, to like and share it ”.

"La Isla Bonita" was recorded in 2017 in Jamaica under a riddim performed by Chilean singer and producer Jorge Dla Jungla. The single is a Reggae Chalice production, that for its launch had the support in the art of Rudeboys and now in its audiovisual relaunch, with the animation of the talented Boomer.

With two studio albums to his credit, "La Isla Bonita" joins the catalog of singles that Maialem has presented in audiovisual format, as they are "The perfect night", “Rudegyal”, “Chilean Wine” y “Gyal Move Your Body”, and anticipates that he will soon launch a new production.

“To all my people from Reggae Chalice I can tell you that we are with a little theme coming out of the oven. We already have the master and we are working on audiovisual production, therefore at the beginning of October we would be releasing this new material with two great guests from the scene such as Lady Stephy and Blass, They are two dancers but at the same time they are super interested in perfecting themselves as entertainment artists on the scene and they happily accepted the challenge of joining me in this new song called "Hard Time", hard times", ended.
