What October left us

It came as if nothing and left quickly, almost flying. One day Thursday began October, on a long-awaited night that promised maximum female power. El Jamaik Club, in Recoleta, It was the stage that on that first night of the month would receive a diverse bunch of female Reggae voices. This was how Maialem in combination with Sista Nicky (sattamasagana), Angela, Queen Talulah and Free Brunette, duo consisting of Sistal Li and Sista KT, they took the stage and lit up the party on an unusually cold night in the middle of spring.

Days after, international dancehall was represented in song and dance. The notorious dancer from Jamaica, Latonya Style, was in Chile dictating a dancehall workshop for men and women, activity organized by the Chilean dancers Santitas Killah. for a whole saturday, Latonya, teacher of this discipline and director of the DanceJa academy on the beautiful island, made participants sweat in an afternoon of dancehall culture and education, in three blocks of intensive classes: authentic dancehall, stylish moves, twerk and booty Shake.

That same Saturday night, Mr. Lexx arrived in Chile as the highlight of Jamrok's anniversary celebration, dancehall reggae club located in the commune of Maipú. On the occasion, the artist from East Kingston, In Jamaica, made a review of renowned songs from his career and that have sounded strong on the scene since the beginning of the nineties. It was like that for about an hour, an energetic Mr Lexx performed “Good hole”, Me Lexx,, “Wine and dip”, "Rugu Rugu", “Dem a Pree”, y “How she do it”, to name a few.

The crowning of that weekend moved in reggae dancehall was the Cultural Afternoon organized by the Rastafari Nyahbinghi brotherhood at Bunna Cafeteria, in the Cajon del Maipo. In an afternoon for the whole family, the activity began with the traditional ethiopian coffee ceremony performed by Ras Matuko. Later the children enjoyed a film sample before giving way to the soundsystem, instance where Polo Isses were present, Revel y Anbless Nabi.

On October 8, he surprised us with the visit of "The Geniuses of Dub" to our country. For the first time, the eccentric and legendary Lee “Scratch” Perry was in Chile, creator of the legendary Black Ark studio in the seventies, accompanied by Mad Professor, who visited us before last november. A night of “Strickly Legends”, as it was baptized by its organizers, and that also had the already recognized Rootz HiFi sound system.

We know October particularly for its holidays. This is how every twelve of this month we have a holiday for the day in which the arrival of Christopher Columbus in America is remembered, in 1492. For the first time, organizations of Rastafarian brothers and sisters, as much Nyahbinghi as Boboashanti, as well as pan-African organizations, met in the heart of Santiago, in the Plaza de Armas, in a self-proclaimed day of "counter information" about the misnamed "Día de la Raza".

As part of the birthday of the great Peter Tosh and on the occasion of the anniversary 13 from underground club, Andrew Tosh appeared on that stage, son of the famous composer and activist for human rights and the legalization of cannabis, on a day to remember. to this event, Reggae Chalice could not attend, a tremendous pity because the cost of the ticket left us out of enjoying the legacy of a great artist, a world reggae icon.

Finally, the French artist Daddy Mory was again in Chile, with Daddy Gal, in what was the release of his latest album, at a "Big Fyah Party" that we didn't attend either, Well, already in April we had the opportunity to see his show in the framework of the "Dancehall Fest 2015" (which also featured presentations by the Jamaicans Ward 21 y Marcy Chin).
