Jamaica organizes Virtual Telethon to raise funds for health workers

In a joint effort between the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Sports and Entertainment, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Jamaica hopes to raise US $ 10.5 millions to help combat the spread of the deadly COVID-19 that on the island adds 65 cases in 32 days, with 4 Dead people, using a virtual telethon.

Under the name of “Telethon Jamaica. Together We Stand” (Jamaica telethon, Together we get up), title inspired by the recently released Richie Spice song; The event aims to bring Jamaicans together to support this important cause that has affected many citizens worldwide.

The Telethon will feature performances by top Jamaican artists and celebrities from home: Usain Bolt, Buju Banton, Koffee, Spice, Shaggy, Julian Marley, Marcia Griffiths, Cristopher Martin, Jesse Royal, Richie Stephens, Cat Coore, Richie Spice, OMI, among others. The live event of 6 hours long will be broadcast on YouTube channels, VP Records Facebook and part of the event will be broadcast on the national television signal, TVJ Jamaica.

The Minister of Culture, Gender, Sports and Entertainment, Olivia Grange, told local press that the funds raised at the Jamaica Telethon will be used to provide “much-needed additional resources for our health services, including hospital ventilators and personal protective equipment for healthcare and frontline workers”, Test and treatment kits as they become available.
