Reggae beats strong in the Biobio

"Heartbeats of the Great River" is the name of the compiled reggae music brings together different artists from the region of Biobio, In the south of Chile, and that will be released live this Saturday 13 October at Balmaceda Arte Joven, Conception.

Produced under the wing of Nyahconce, Rastafari community organization of Concepción, “Latidos del Gran Río” brings together the work of 14 area artists: Congo Map, Natural Pulse, mixed Coco, vibration Eleva, 4dostress, Addreade feat Thunderup; green hill, Karamawi in combination with Ebed Melec; Combo Klatt, Tapia Roots, Viento's HiFi -Dubplate made by the Jamaican Lone Ranger-; Kutral Dub, Let's eat it, and Angela Pastrana, the only woman who participates in this production.

The compilation covers different variants of reggae, like the roots, reggae rap, reggae rockers, dub, dub poetry -genre not very developed in Chile yet-, will, and a few touches of funk and blues. Mastered by black music producer and sound engineer Kutral Dub; the art and design was in charge of the muralist Tikuriche Ser Sur. The album also brings with it a minibook of illustrations inspired by the Biobío territory, Produced by the publishing house Cimarrón Subversiones.

Reggae Chalice spoke with the producers of this initiative, Nano by Cimarrón Subversiones and Binghi Nico, who commented that the idea was born as a proposal that seeks to rescue the roots of reggae but with its local identity, “like a new language that expresses the old: the beating of the heart, the sound of One Two or Do Well, connecting with creation, and inviting us out of babylon. At the same time, the great strength and majesty of the Biobío River is rescued, or "Great River" as the ancients called it that from the mountain to the sea irrigates the territory with life, and which has been the historical frontier of resistance of the Wallmapu (territory inhabited by Mapuche), first with Spain and then with Chile”.

further, It is part of the different initiatives that the organization has promoted with the aim of promoting culture, music, but also raise funds for different purposes, in this case, contribute to the travel expenses of the representative of the region in the Chilean Rastafari delegation that travels to Jamaica in the next few days.

“The Biobío reggae scene is very creative, diverse and promising. It remains current supporting all the spaces that arise from blackmusic, autonomy and supporting the struggles that are carried out in this territory, thus maintaining the essence of reggae music as a diffuser of the struggles of the people”, the producers commented and also announced that this album will be the first of many more compiled albums that they plan to make, as well as the recording of a Nyahbinghi album.
